Quincy, Illinois was the home of another John Wood (1798-1880) who was born in Cayuga County, New York. This John Wood was the first settler at Quincy, Illinois and served as Governor of Illinois from 1860-1861. There does not appear to be a family relationship between these two men named John Wood.

Rev. John W. Wood died at 11 o’clock Saturday night at the advanced age of 80 years. His death is attributed to old age. Deceased was born in Utica, N. Y., May 12, 1813, and had resided here for about twenty-five years. His wife passed away some ten years ago. Deceased resided at Twenty-fouth and Maine streets. His family consisted of Mr. Charles I. Wood and Mr. William W. Wood, of Gloversville, N. Y., and Mr. Dwight Wood and Miss Marcia Wood, of Quincy. Deceased was a retired preacher. Years ago he occasionally preached in the Presbyterian church. He was well known throughout the city.

Charles L. Wood of Gloverville, N. Y., a brother of Dwight and Miss Marcia Wood of this city, died yesterday. He leaves a wife and two children. He formerly lived here, and is well remembered here.

Mr. Dwight Wood of Riverside [Township] who suffered a stroke of paralysis last week is better. His brother, W. W. Wood, of Johnston, New York came to see him in response to a telegram.
