Margaret "Peggy" RANDALL was born about 1814 in Kentucky, the daughter of William and Mary (BEADLES) RANDALL and grandaughter of Rice and Sarah (ADAMS) BEADLES. In 1830 in Washington Co., Missouri, Peggy married Robert E. Brant SUTTON. Robert SUTTON was a farmer and a Kentucky native, according to the 1850 census of Bellevue Twp, Washington Co., MO. In 1860, Margaret and children Mary, Robert , Elizabeth and John were living in Bellevue Twp, but her husband Robert is not with them. He may have died prior to this time.
Peggy (RANDALL) BEADLES, had a "rich uncle" named Nathan BEADLES, who had no children of his own. When Nathan BEADLES died in the 1890s, the executors of his estate identified several of Peggy's children. Elizabeth SUTTON MARKS was living near Farmington, St. Francois Co, MO. Margaret TAYLOR was near Riverside, Shannon Co., MO. William, Frank and John SUTTON were living in Washington Co, MO.
1.1.William Jerome SUTTON was born in 1831 in Missouri. His maternal grandfather was named William RANDALL; one might speculate that his paternal grandfather was one Jerome SUTTON. William Jerome SUTTON married Nancy McCLONEY and they had two children before her death in 1859. In 1860, William and his two young children were living near his mother Margaret SUTTON in Bellevue Twp, Washington Co, MO. His occupation is listed as "collier".
William enlisted in July 1861 as a Union soldier in Company I of the 8th regiment of Missouri infantry volunteers. He was discharged in July of 1865. In March of 1865 he married a widow, Malinda Jane HIGHLY HUGHES and they had four children. In 1870, the family lived in Bellevue Twp, Washington Co, MO. In the veterans census of 1890, William J. SUTTON is listed with a postal address at Caledonia, Iron Co., MO. He claimed a disability due to smallpox which influenced his eye sight. 1.4. Robert Frank SUTTON was born about 1840. He may have married a girl named Elizabeth, as one Robert Sutton, age 30 lived in Bellevue Twp, Washington Co., MO in 1870, with his wife, age 18. Neither could read or write. According to the veterans census of 1890, Robert F. SUTTON enlisted as a private in Company G of the 47th Missouri Infantry in Aug. 1864. He served a period of seven months, being discharged 29 Mar 1865. In 1890, Robert was living near Irondale, in Concord Twp, Washington Co., MO.
1.6. John Rice SUTTON was born about 1848 in Missouri. About 1893, he was living near Caledonia, Washington Co, MO. His middle name, Rice, was the first name of his great-grandfather, Rice BEADLES.
