Obituary.Martha A. Beadles was born in Scott county, Illinois, October 19, 1834, and departed this life to be with Jesus January 7, 1919, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 18 days. She was united in marriage to William C. Slagle September 8, 1853, in Scott county, Illinois, and came to Kansas in 1882 and settled on the farm near Humboldt where they lived until March, 1901, when they moved to Neosho Falls. In 1911 they moved to Humboldt where they lived until a few years ago when they went to live with their daughters. To their union were born eight children, two dying in infancy; J. B. Slagle, who died in 1887 and Nora Henderson, who died in 1892, and four daughter, Mrs. John King, Mrs. James Henderson and Mrs. Etta King of Humboldt, and Mrs. Sarah Six of Decatur, Ill., who are left to mourn her loss. Her husband preceded her to the life beyond four years ago, the 15th of October. Mrs. Slagle was converted when quite young and lived a devout Christian life. She was always vitally interested in those who were not Christians and as long as she was physically able to do so would give out papers and tracts in the community where she lived. She loved to read her Bible and the Gospel Trumpet was a welcome messenger to her home. She will be missed on earth but our loss is her eternal gain. She leaves to mourn her loss four daughters, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and many friends--for to know her was to lover her. Below is a short testimony written on her 84th birthday: "I am 84 years old today. I hardly think I will be here another year though I may. If so, amen. I say the end is near so the prophets say, but then, we know not when. I entreat you in Jesus, precious name to all be ready then. Your sister in Christ.--Mrs. M. A. Slagle." |
