Life's Journey Ended.
William L. Beadles, a resident of Little Walnut twp., since March 15, 1874, departed this life at his home two miles North of Leon, Friday evening, September 10, 1897, aged 75 years 3 months and 19 days. The deceased had been sick but was up and about again--deliverd milk to the creamery on Tuesday of last week and Wednesday he looked over the farm and asked his wife if she wanted to go to Mrs. Hyde's sale; she believed not and he remained at home and was taken sick during the day and lived two days. The deceased was born near Louisville Kentucky and removed with his parents to Illinois, at the age of seven years, where he lived until he moved to Kansas in 1874. Rev. J. K. Pedrick preached the funeral at the house on Saturday and the reamins were deposited in the Butts graveyard west of town. The widow and seven children survive him. They have the sympathy of a large circle of neighbors in their bereavement. [NOTES about accuracy]

Nathan Beadles arrived last Saturday, from Lewiston, Ill., too late to attend the funeral of his father, who was buried on Saturday. He returned home yesterday.

Nathan Beadles received a telegram yesterday morning that his brother, John, had just died of paralysis of the bowels. He received a sunstroke last summer from which he never fully recovered.

Last of Van Huss Pioneers is Called. Mrs. Mary A. Beadles Succumbs on Monday Morning Following Few Years of Ill Health

The last of the Van Huss pioneers was taken from that community late Monday morning, June 21, when the Death Angel called Mrs. Mary Ameilia Beadles, in death, at her home on the old homestead, north of Leon.

Mrs. Beadles was 87 years old, and had been in ill health for the past three years. She was the last of the pioneers who settled in the Van Huss community in the 70's and was a much loved woman in that community where she was so well-known.

Mary Amelia Beadles was born in Knox County, Mo., January 7 1850, and moved at the age of seven with her parents to Fulton County, Ill., where she resided until 1871. She was united in marriage to William L. Beadles in 1870 and a year later they came to Butler County, Kansas, where she has since resided. They first homesteaded the Frank Snodgrass place, soutwest of Leon, but in 1874, Mr. Beadles purchased the patent of John Brown where Rolla Beadles now resides, and the place has since been the Beadles' home.

To this union were born five children, two of whom survive the deceased. Preceeding here were a daughter, Mrs. Effie Palmer, and two sons Maxie and Robert Beadles. One daughter, Mrs. Ora Belle Overstreet, of Wichita, and one son, Rolden L. Beadles of Leon, survive her. She is also survived by two brothers, Sam Freiley of Wilcox, Nebr., and Sterling Freiley, of Lewistown, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Cora Pigg, of Lewistown; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in the Beadles home, with services conducted by Rev. Ray H. Baker, paster of the Leon Christian Church. Interment was made in the Butts Cemetery.

Pallbearers were the grandsons, Leburn and Dale Palmer of Chase, Creigh and Lavaughn Overstreet of Wichita, Ellis Beadles, and Grady Smith.

A quartet composed of Mrs. N. A. Dedrick and Miss Lillian, Mrs. W. S. Marshall, and Mrs. H. S. Dedrick sang, "Sweet Hour of Prayer", "Where We'll Meet One Another Again" and "I'm Going Home to Die No More".

Byrd Funeral Home was in charge.

NOTES about accuracy of William L. BEADLES obituary

William BEADLES was probably born about 80 miles southeast of Louisville, KY. Many other references suggest that both of his parents died before 1830 in Mercer County, KY, and that William was an orphan prior to his move to Illinois. William apparently came to Illinois about 1830 with several of his father's brothers, who were the sons of Rice and Sarah BEADLES. The seven surviving children (of 14) were: (from his first marriage): John BEADLES (who died four days after his father), Nathan BEADLES, Susan Rice BEADLES BRUNER, (from his second marriage): Effie BEADLES PALMER,Max BEADLES, Orabelle BEADLES and Rolden BEADLES.

NOTES about accuracy of Mary A. BEADLES obituary

Census and family information suggest that Mary may have been born in Fulton Co., IL, not in Knox Co., MO. However, some of her younger siblings were born in Knox Co., MO and her parents did live in both locations when Mary was a youngster.

Mary married William L. BEADLES, a widower, on 11 Mar 1873 in Fulton Co., IL [ref. marriage license] not in 1870. William's first wife did not die until Jan 1872. Several references suggest that the family moved to Butler Co., KS about 1874.
