Notes from Dennis R. Courtright, the submitter:

I am quite sure that my line of Bedells came out of Sussex Co. NJ in about 1830s. I find older families of Bedells in Eastern NJ which they probably tie into. I have found NJ, and especially NW NJ a bear for trying to trace anything prior to 1830, the first census that is available there.

I believe that all but John and his son Zachariah lived in Lackawanna Co. PA. This info comes from family bibles and local history books. For reference (1), I have Peter Bedell's family bible, pub. 1822.

I have other references that I havn't tied in that shows a number of Bedells in early 17th cent. in NJ. I have a article from a Newsletter of the Sussex Co. NJ Historical Assn. showing Peter Bedell , b. 4/9/1803 and Susannah Caus, b. 4/9/1801 moving out of Sussex Co. to Lackawanna Co. PA in 1826.
